Hawthorn midfielder Conor Nash has been referred directly to tribunal for his hit on Geelong’s Gryan Miers in the Easter Monday clash, while Bailey Smith has received two fines.
Nash collected Miers with a swinging arm in the third quarter of the contest that resulted in the field umpire instantly placing the Hawk on report.
It was graded as careless conduct, severe impact and high contact and will result in a minimum three-match ban ahead of Hawthorn’s clashes against West Coast, Richmond and Melbourne.

Meanwhile Smith received fines for shoving the footy into Hawk Jarman Impey’s face as well as as his second-straight sanction for pulling his middle finger to a fan, cited as an “obscene reference.”
Both fines were $3,125 that can be reduced to $1,875 with an early plea.
Geelong’s Tom Atkins also received a fine for making “careless contact with an umpire” for the second time.
It comes after AFL Hall of Fame Legend Leigh Matthews argued instances like Nash’s hit on Miers should result in a send-off rule.
“There’s no doubt he’ll get a few weeks,” Matthews said.
“This is the exact incident, you only see a handful a year, where there should be a send-off rule because Geelong have lost Miers, so they’re one man down and of course Nash stays on the field.
“I just think there has to be a system in place for an incident like this that it’s obvious he’s going to get reported and suspended. But it’s an evening the numbers up thing for me, so now Geelong have only got 22 players active and Hawthorn have got 23.”
