Australia Jason Day is well placed at the end of the second round of the PGA Tour’s American Express Tournament in California.

Day is in a tie for fifth on -14, two shots behind leader Charley Hoffman (-16).
The Aussie carded a six under 66 to back up a stellar opening round 64 as he aims to record his first PGA Tour win in 21 months since taking out the Byron Nelson in May 2023.
The American Express, otherwise known as the ‘Desert Classic’ holds the distinction of being the only PGA Tour event on the calendar held on three different courses.
Day has already had rounds at the La Qunita Course and the Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course. He’ll play his final two rounds on the Pete Dye Stadium Course.
Day fired seven birdies during his second round, with one bogey coming on the par five 16th.
The 37-year-old says while he’s happy with how he’s played so far, the toughest test on the Stadium course is still to come.
“It was good, just one blemish on that par five. Overall, very solid from tee to green, putting feels good going into the tough test starting tomorrow,” Day said.
“They’re saying it’s playing around even par. That’s definitely a big change compared to the last two days so the game plan is going to have to change a bit, going to have to be a bit more conservative.
“The next two days are going to be tough. We’ll have to mentally prepare for a new golf course.”
CBS golf announcer Mark Immelman was in awe of Day’s short game in Round 1 and says he’s so far doing everything well this weekend, believing he’s the favourite to win the event from here.

“He’s struck the ball beautifully from tee-to-green today but in Round 1, it was vintage Jason Day,” Immelman said during the Round 2 broadcast.
“As he hits these green side shots, notice how the club head stays below his hands throughout. It became a masterclass from green side.
“It was virtuoso from Jason Day around the greens and this is what he does … He was cooking with a wedge in hand in Round 1.
“Today, the iron game is there, so you look at the menu, he’s driving it great, striking irons well and the short game is on fire. You have to stay in front of this guy if you want to win the event.”
