The closed-door interview with the president’s brother, James Biden, last week came as Republicans in recent weeks have hauled in a series of Biden family business associates who testified, based on first-hand experience, Joe Biden was not involved in his family’s foreign business dealings, undermining the allegation at the heart of their entire investigation.
James Biden was spotted on Capitol Hill entering his deposition shortly before 10:30 a.m. ET last Wednesday, and the interview ended a little over eight hours later.
He said in his opening statement that his brother “has never had any involvement or any direct or indirect financial interest” in his 50-year career in a variety of business ventures, according to a copy obtained by CNN.
“Because of my intimate knowledge of my brother’s personal integrity and character, as well as my own strong ethics, I have always kept my professional life separate from our close personal relationship,” James Biden said. “I never asked my brother to take any official action on behalf of me, my business associates, or anyone else.”
James Biden’s attorney, Paul Fishman, said in a statement that his client was “unequivocal” in his testimony that the president was not involved in his brother’s business ventures.
“The information that he provided confirms that this impeachment inquiry is a waste of time, resources, and taxpayer money,” Fishman said.
