Superstar Reece Walsh has hit back at claims the Broncos squad have a “rockstar” attitude, explaining he’d prefer to be mowing his lawns that out partying by the beach.

Following a turbulent 2024 campaign, which saw Kevin Walters axed and Brisbane miss out on finals football, questions were raised regarding the squad’s commitment to rugby league.
“It’s interesting, a lot gets said,” Walsh said on the Marlee and Me podcast.
“A lot of this off-season has been about rockstar this, rockstar that.
“If you sit down and have a conversation with any of us boys at the Broncos … I’m sure you would change your mind real quick.
“I’m a lot more family-orientated and I don’t go out that much and don’t drink that much in season or do any of these things. They probably see a lot of Instagram followers, but I am quite the opposite.
“I love sitting on a ride-on lawnmower on a Sunday with a cowboy hat on and mowing the lawn, instead of being at the Pav in Burleigh.”
Walters meanwhile, echoed Walsh’s opinion, explaining on Sunday the player’s attitude wasn’t the issue after slipping from the 2023 grand final to missing finals 12 months later.
“It’s a load of garbage, I can tell you from being inside the club,” Walters said.
However, he did admit the Broncos are a “rockstar club”, being one of the country’s biggest sporting franchises, but encouraged the gun fullback to be himself.
“If he wants to wear those glasses, wear them,” Walters said.

“Paint your nails. Do what makes you happy and get the job done on the footy field.”
Meanwhile, Walsh opened up on the influence of his daughter Leila, reflecting on her influence following the grand final loss to the Panthers.
“Everyone is going through tough moments, whether it’s at work or you have a shit day or wake up and don’t feel your best,” he said.
I will go to training and come home and in a crappy mood – but she doesn’t care about that.
“I look back to the grand final, emotionally I was in another world, but she told me how much she loved me. She doesn’t know what’s going on or anything like that.
“In those moments, it brings out your true self and you forget about expectations.”
