Former Lion Daniel McStay has been awarded a controversial goal in one of the most “frenetic” plays in Thursday night’s clash at the Gabba.
The now Magpie had been stellar in the opening term with two goals against his former team before the moment that saw tempers boil over.

Collingwood star Bobby Hill found space and streamed inside 50, as McStay found himself in the goalsquare against Lions defender Harris Andrews.
But as McStay attempted to soccer through the goal, his former teammate Andrews made contact and appeared to force the big Magpies forward into the goalpost. WATCH HERE
The incident sparked a furious reaction both on and off the field, as players including Mason Cox, Jack Payne and Jordan De Goey came together while the Brisbane crowd were out of their seats when the push in the back free kick was paid to McStay in the square.
“It is all happening!” Fox Footy’s Matt Hill said.
“McStay who was the last line there, he’s been paid the free kick.
“Probably one of the most frenetic goals we’ve ever seen!”
McStay took the resulting free kick quickly as the fight broke out behind him just metres away.
“Geez there’s some energy gone into the game now,” Fox Footy’s Nathan Buckley said.
“There’s about five or six things going on at once.
“Fans going feral in the stands.”
Just a minute later, Zac Bailey was paid a free kick for Pat Lipinski’s stray arm that caught the Lion high.
“The crowd are out of their seats! It’s getting ferocious on and off field now,” Mark Howard said in commentary.
Cam Rayner and Brayden Maynard were involved in the next scuffle as plenty of offensive language was heard from players coming through the umpire’s mic.
“There’s a lot of niggle in it now,” Buckley said.
“This is what big games need though.
“Both teams are in it and invested.”
It wasn’t the only controversial call that favoured the Magpies with a touchy 50-metre penalty seeing Josh Daicos actually brought forward more than 77 metres.
By half time, Collingwood held a 19-point buffer.
