Collingwood will hope to get its premiership defence up and running as it unveils its premiership flag against Sydney back at the MCG tonight.
The Magpies (0-1, 71.9%) were disappointing in their Opening Round loss though goalkicking accuracy – the Giants having plenty and the visitors having very little – played a major role in the margin blowing out.
The Swans (1-0, 134.4%) opened the 2024 season with an impressive win over Melbourne as star recruit Brodie Grundy fired, but they’ll be without his former Collingwood teammate Taylor Adams who remains sidelined for the first game against his old side.

The Magpies will unfurl their 2023 premiership flag at 6:16pm AEDT, well before the game starts at 7:40pm, leading to suggestions they were trying not to make a big deal out of it after criticism from premiership coach Leigh Matthews and others about “over-celebrating”.
“That strikes me as very unusual that it would be so far ahead of when a major part of the crowd will arrive,” AFL 360 host Gerard Whateley said on Wednesday.
“There’s not a whole critical mass of the Magpie army that’s going to be there at 6:16pm.
“I hope that it’s not because they’re starting to feel awkward about still looking like they’re celebrating.”
The game gets underway at the MCG at 7:40pm AEDT.
Watch it live on Fox Footy and Kayo from 6:30pm.
