Renegades captain Will Sutherland has won the toss, and elected to bowl first at GMHBA Stadium in Geelong.
Retired Australian wicketkeeper Matthew Wade and all-rounder Mitch Owen are opening the batting for the Hurricanes.
Having recently finished his debut Test series with the Poms across the ditch in New Zealand, 21-year-old Bethell looks likely to set the competition alight given his natural ball-striking ability and all-round versatility in the field or with ball in hand.
He replaces Pakistani Hassan Khan in the Renegades’ squad, after their five-wicket loss to the Sydney Sixers on Monday night at the SCG.
It was Kiwi import Tim Seifert (55 runs off 42 balls) on BBL debut who impressed the most a few days ago, with skipper Sutherland also making notable contributions with bat and ball.
On the other side of the ledger sit the Hobart Hurricanes, playing their first match of BBL|14 and seeking a first finals appearance since the 2021/22 season; which they were swiftly eliminated from.
Nathan Ellis will be the franchise’s captain once again, with experienced heads like Matthew Wade, Tim David, Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith and Pom Chris Jordan ready to impact from the get-go.
The first ball will be bowled at 7:15pm AEDT time at Kardinia Park.
