Michael Maguire will reportedly stay on as head coach of the New Zealand after a powerful group of Kiwis old boys were pushing for his sacking.
Maguire reportedly presented to a board meeting on Wednesday, looking back on the recent successful Pacific Championships campaign.
The Kiwis were able to beat Mal Meninga’s Kangaroos 30-0 in the final in one of their best performances in recent years.

Now according to the NZ Herald, the NZRL board have decided Maguire will remain as the Kiwis head coach and will be able to take up the NSW Blues head coach role.
The Kiwis old boys held the view Maguire wouldn’t be able to juggle both roles and also deemed his involvement in State of Origin a benefit to the Kangaroos.
However, the NZRL board decided against his sacking with the playing group also backing the former Tigers coach.

The decision is yet to be announced, however the board’s decision is reportedly set to be rubber stamped in the coming days.
Maguire’s current contract with the Kiwis expires at the end of the 2026 World Cup, having taken over as head coach in 2018.
New Zealand fell out of last year’s World Cup in the semi finals, going down to Australia in England.
