Scott Pendlebury was substituted out of the game with a lower leg injury roughly five minutes into the first quarter of Collingwood’s preliminary final against Brisbane at the MCG.
The 37-year-old, who was playing his 425th career game, headed down into the rooms in the early minutes of the first quarter, and re-emerged shortly after only to be ruled out of the game in a disastrous blow to the Magpies.
In just his fifth game, Roan Steele was activated as Pendlebury moved to the back of the bench.

Three-time Brisbane Lions premiership hero Alastair Lynch, who is boundary riding for Fox Footy, confirmed that it was a tight calf that prompted Pendlebury to be assessed and ultimately substituted out of his 33rd career final.
“Massive, massive story,” David King said on Fox Footy’s coverage of Pendlebury’s injury.
