Australia’s Matildas will head into a home Women’s Asian Cup final as major underdogs, with Japan cruising into the decider on Wednesday night.
It will be a rematch of the 2014 and 2018 finals, both won 1-0 by Japan, with the Matildas looking for their first major trophy since the 2010 tournament.

The last time they met, just over a year ago at the SheBelieves Cup, Japan won 4-0.
Since the 2014 Asian Cup the two nations have played 10 times with five wins for Japan, three wins for Australia (the most recent at the 2018 Tournament of Nations) and two draws.
Japan crushed South Korea 4-1 in their semi-final on Wednesday with goals from Riko Ueki, Maika Hamano, Saki Kumagai and Remina Chiba.
The 78th minute consolation goal scored by South Korea’s Kang Chae-rim was the first Japan had conceded for the entire tournament.
They head into Saturday night’s final at Accor Stadium (8pm AEDT) with five wins from five games, having scored 28 goals and allowed only one.
The Matildas defeated China 2-1 on Tuesday night in Perth to book their place in the final.
