A Melbourne cricketer is fighting for life in hospital after he was struck by a ball before a T20 match.
The incident happened at Walley Tew Reserve in Ferntree Gully, in Melbourne’s southeast, about 4.45pm on Tuesday.
The teenager was warming up in the nets before a match between Ferntree Gully and Eildon Park when he was struck in the head, 7News reported.

Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance and Advanced Life paramedics treated the boy at the scene and rushed him to Monash Medical Centre in a critical condition.
It is understood the cricket player is on life support in hospital.
Ringwood and District Cricket Association president Michael Finn has been contacted for comment, but he told 7News they were doing whatever they could to assist.
“Currently our thoughts and prayers are with the family,” he said.
“We’re committed to providing whatever support we need to for the clubs and the officials that were involved.”
A witness told the Herald Sun about three or four players rushed to help the player.
“Someone ran and grabbed a defib and an ambulance was there within maybe five or six minutes. Then there was fire brigade and police flying in left, right and centre,” a witness told the newspaper.
“Everyone was just stunned, not really knowing what was happening and how serious it was, because at first it was like someone had been hit in the head.
“When they called for the defibrillator it was like … this is much more serious. There were players from both teams who knew the boy, so both teams were concerned.’’
