Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh will join the World Cup squad in Mumbai on Sunday evening, returning to India following the passing of his grandfather, Ross.
The 32-year-old flew out of India on Wednesday, returning home to Perth for a “family issue”. He subsequently missed this weekend’s blockbuster World Cup match against England in Ahmedabad, which Australia won by 33 runs.
Marsh’s grandfather, Ross, passed away on Friday, with the Australian team wearing black armbands at Narendra Modi Stadium to acknowledge his death.

On Saturday evening, Cricket Australia confirmed that Marsh would return to India the following day, rejoining the ODI squad ahead of Tuesday’s crucial clash with Afghanistan in Mumbai.
Earlier this week, Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis revealed that Marsh had sent his teammates a parting message before leaving India: “I’ll be home for a little bit, then I’ll be coming back to win this World Cup.”
Australia, currently third on the World Cup standings with ten points, will face Afghanistan at Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday evening, with the first ball scheduled for 7.30pm AEDT.
