The Perth Wildcats have detailed the road to recovery for projected No.1 pick in the 2024 NBA draft Alex Sarr after he suffered a hip injury playing in the NBL late last month.
Sarr slipped on the court in Perth’s big win over Adelaide on December 28 and fell awkwardly, with the Wildcats estimating a two to three week stint on the sidelines for the power forward.
“Alex Sarr experienced a minor hip strain during the win over the Adelaide 36ers on December 28,” the Wildcats said in a statement.
“An MRI taken confirmed the strain. An additional review has since revealed that he is making positive progress.
“Sarr will be re-evaluated next week prior to our game on January 13 against the South East Melbourne Phoenix at RAC Arena, with a 2-3 week timeline for his return.”
Sarr was described as one of the most complete and versatile projected No.1 picks in recent memory by ESPN’s NBA draft expert Jonathan Givony.
“Alex Sarr, our new projected No. 1 pick, plays a compact, efficient role for Perth, with plenty of freedom to demonstrate his versatile skill set pushing off the glass, as a facilitator, making shots dynamically, and showing excellent footwork and touch as a finisher,” wrote Givony on X, formerly known as Twitter.
ESPN’s latest list of the best available players in the 2024 NBA draft has Sarr tipped to go No.1 ahead of small forward Zaccharie Risacher (Bourg) and shooting guard Cody Williams (Colorado) at No.3.
The French teenage sensation signed with the Perth Wildcats for the 2023/24 NBL season as part of the Next Stars program.
The 7-footer is a mouth-watering prospect for NBA teams, possessing an exciting blend of size, length, athleticism, and versatility.
The 18-year-old was the projected 17th pick back in May last year, but has moved up the rankings all the way to No.1 on the back of his performances for the Wildcats in the NBL.
