They might be in cracking form, but the Fremantle Dockers still can’t afford a late-season slip-up on Sunday afternoon when they host an injury-plagued Carlton at Optus Stadium.
The Dockers (13-6, 111.7%) are one of the AFL’s hottest teams, winning nine of their past 10 games to now sit inside the top eight.
And losses suffered by Hawthorn and the Giants earlier this round have opened up a golden opportunity for Justin Longmuir’s men, who can usurp the fellow finals contenders on the ladder by going a game ahead. A loss to the Blues, however, would likely see Fremantle drop to eighth spot, leaving them vulnerable with the ninth-placed Western Bulldogs nipping at their heals.

Meanwhile, the travelling Blues (7-12, 93.3%) are limping to the finish line, losing five of their past six games.
And they’ve had more personnel issues ahead of the clash with Fremantle, with Charlie Curnow ruled out for the season and Jack Silvagni almost certain to join him.
The first bounce will hit the Optus Stadium turf at 5:10pm AEST (3:10pm local time), with the substitutes and final teams for each side to be confirmed an hour beforehand.
