Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Rondale Moore has died by a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound according to police.
He was 25 years old.
According to WHAS11, New Albany Police Chief Todd Bailey said Moore’s body was discovered in a garage.
Moore was born in New Albany, Indiana in which he was a three-sport athlete at New Albany High School before transferring to Trinity High School in Louisville, Kentucky, where he was named the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year in 2017.
The receiver was a standout at Purdue in which he had 1,258 receiving yards on 114 receptions along with 12 touchdowns and was named a first-team All-American.
Purdue released a statement upon the news of Moore’s death, saying that he was a “legendary Boilermaker.”
“The Purdue Football family is deeply saddened by the news of Rondale Moore’s tragic passing,” the team posted on X Saturday. “An All-American with an infectious smile, Rondale was a joy on and off the field. Someone who left this world too soon, Rondale will be remembered as a legendary Boilermaker.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Rondale’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
Jeff Brohm, Moore’s head coach at Purdue who now coaches at Louisville, also released a statement on his death shortly after the news was announced.
“Rondale Moore was a complete joy to coach,” Brohm wrote in a post on X.
“The ultimate competitor that wouldn’t back down from any challenge. Rondale had a work ethic unmatched by anyone. A great teammate that would come through in any situation.
“We all loved Rondale, we loved his smile and competitive edge that always wanted to please everyone he came in contact with. We offer all of our thoughts and prayers to Rondale and his family, we love him very much.”
Moore was drafted by the Cardinals in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, and spent three seasons in Arizona before being traded to the Falcons following the 2023 season.
He ultimately never suited up for the Falcons as he was placed on season-ending injured reserve after suffering a knee injury in training camp ahead of the 2024 season.
In March 2025, the Vikings signed Moore to a one-year deal worth $2 million, where he again suffered a season-ending knee injury during a preseason game against the Texans on Aug. 9.
