The Miami Dolphins’ put on a first half offensive blitz en route to a 45-15 win over the Washington Commanders, thanks to star wide receiver Tyreek Hill’s masterclass.
Hill recorded four catches, 152 yards and two touchdowns in the first half alone as Miami essentially had the game won at half time with a 31-7 lead.
Miami resorted to the run game in the second half due to the big lead, so Hill only added one catch for five yards in the second half.
However, the output was enough to keep Hill right on track to become the NFL’s first ever 2000-yard receiver.
After 12 games this season, Hill has 1,481 yards and 12 touchdowns, meaning he’ll need 519 yards over the final five games to reach 2k.
Hall-of-Famer Calvin Johnson holds the record with 1,964 yards in a season, set in 2012.Rams WR went close in 2021, recording 1,947.
The Dolphins win keeps them right in contention for the AFC’s No.1 seed and with a three-game lead over Buffalo, Miami appear to have the AFC East division locked up.
POTENTIAL PLAYOFF TEAMS SUFFER CRUEL INJURY BLOWS
Texans rookie sensation Tank Dell is likely out for the rest of the season after suffering a fractured fibula in his team’s 22-17 win over the Denver Broncos.
Dell, an electric wide receiver who was on track for a 1000-yard season, sustained the injury in the first half and was carted off the field.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t the only key injury in Week 13. Detroit Lions centre Frank Ragnow left his team’s win over the Saints with a knee injury and didn’t return.
Ragnow is an important cog in Detroit’s outstanding offensive line and improved run game. The Lions will no doubt be sweating on an update in the coming days with a playoff appearance all but locked up for the 9-3 team.
Overall, it was a brutal day for injuries around the league.
Titans RB Derrick Henry, in the midst of a terrific day (102 yards, 2TDs) suffered a concussion and did not return while Arizona WR Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown re-aggravated a foot injury.
Patriots RB Rhamondre Stevenson was another player who had their day ended through injury with the hip-drop tackle that caused it likely to draw the ire of the NFL, who are keen to eradicate the controversial tackle that NRL fans are all too familiar with.
SPEAKING OF INJURIES…
The most gruesome of injuries in Week 13 didn’t happen to a player, but a sideline official in the Lions-Saints game.
In what is one of the more bizarre (and unfortunate) moments in recent seasons, a member of the chain crew (manages the first down signal markers) in New Orleans was struck in the legs and taken out by Saints running back Alvin Kamara who was pushed out of bounds after a run play.
The official looked in obvious pain and had to be worked on by the medical unit for several minutes before he was stretchered off.
