Already with a monster list of players unavailable due to injury and suspension, the Giants were hit with a fresh blow with Briggs going down midway through the first quarter after suffering a sickening head knock.
Briggs collided with the hip of teammate Sam Taylor in a marking contest and was taken from the field in a medicab.

It forced Lachlan Keeffe into the ruck, and the Giants responded to close out the term with three kick goals as Finn Callaghan dominated the middle and pushed it out to a 21-point margin at quarter time.

Jeremy Howe went off with a suspected head knock but was seen returning to the Magpies bench late in the second quarter.
