An “eerie” moment during the Magic Round blockbuster between the Panthers and Broncos has dug up some painful memories for Brisbane fans.
During the Panthers’ thumping win, Penrith star Nathan Cleary scored a first half try which was a carbon copy to his famous match winner in the 2023 decider.
Just like he did to sink the Broncos’ premiership hopes 17 months ago, Cleary received the ball ten metres out to the left of the uprights, dummied left before cutting back inside to score under the posts.
“Oh that brings back some memories of 2023. That is going to be triggering,” Dan Ginnane said on Fox League.

“That is eerie. That’s eerie that!” Michael Ennis added.
Former Broncos coach Kevin Walters was on the panel at half time and he reacted to the vision of Cleary’s try.
“Deja vu for you Kevvie?” host Braith Anasta asked.
“I don’t want to watch that vision because it’s horrible for me,” Walters said.
“It’s horrible for me to watch that.
“It was the same situation.
“It’s nearly exactly the same. This time, thankfully for the Broncos, it’s not as big a situation.
They say history repeats and there you go.”
In addition to that try, Cleary set up another, recorded four tackle busts a 40/20 and two line breaks to orchestrate Penrith to a much-needed victory.
