‘Oh you guys saw that?’: Chiefs coach, superstar address THAT Super Bowl act

Kansas City superstar Travis Kelce had to be restrained by a teammate after exploding at Chiefs coach Andy Reid.

The incident occurred early in the second quarter when Isiah Pacheco fumbled the ball after Patrick Mahomes’ 52-yard cannon to Mecole Hardman brought the Chiefs into the 49ers’ redzone.

A furious Kelce, who was left off the field when Pacheco fumbled the ball, was seen yelling right into Reid’s ear before he grabbed his left arm and bumped into the coach.

Kelce’s teammate Jerick McKinnon arrived to drag the irate tight end away from his coach before things got further out of hand.

The 34-year-old was barely involved in the contest throughout the first half having been targeted just once, which he turned ito a one-yard play.

Kelce had a much better second half and was spotted hugging his coach during the game as he seemingly looked to apologise for the act.

“Travis Kelce just walked up and hugged Andy Reid. Reid patted him on the back,” The Athletic’s Mike Jones said.

Both Reid and Kelce after the match seemed to brush off the incident.

“He keeps me young,” Reid said cheekily before adding: “He loves to play the game and he loves to help his team win. It’s not a selfish thing.

“As much as he bumps into me, I get after him. We understand that. He just caught me off balance.”

Asked post-game about the incident, Kelce cheekily told CBS: “Oh you guys saw that?

“I’m going to keep that between us unless my miked up tells the world but I was just telling him how much I love him.”

Kelce then spoke to ESPN, claiming he was “fired up that we weren’t hitting on all cylinders”.

“I had to give ‘Big Red’ a love tap and let him know that we were all here fighting for him no matter what,” Kelce said.

“I just had to tell him I loved him real quick.

“I put so much trust in him and how he goes about being a head coach, as a leader — he’s one of the best leaders in the game. I can’t thank him enough for giving me opportunities year in, year out. This third one, this second one back-to-back, this one’s for him, no doubt.”

Kelce then told reporters he played for “the greatest coach this game has ever seen” and “one of the best leaders of men that I’ve ever seen in my life”.

“He’s helped me a lot with channelling that emotion, channelling that passion and I owe my entire career to that guy and being able to control how emotional I get. I just love him,” Kelce told reporters.

The reaction from NFL fans on social media at the time was brutal as they could scarcely believe a player could be so aggressive to their coach.
