The Kansas City Chiefs have won a thrilling Super Bowl LVIII 25-22 after Patrick Mahomes connected with Mecole Hardman on a three-yard touchdown to win the game in overtime.
Mahomes was announced as the Super Bowl MVP for his starring role – the third of his career.
He is the third player in NFL history to collect at least three Super Bowl MVP awards after Joe Montana and Tom Brady.
Mahomes was surgical with his arm in the fourth quarter and overtime, leading his team on a game-tying field goal drive in the fourth quarter and then a game-winning touchdown drive in the extra period.
He finished 33/46, 333 yards and two touchdowns while adding 66 rushing yards.
San Francisco wide receiver Jauan Jennings, a seventh-round draft pick, was a surprise hero for the 49ers with a receiving and passing touchdown in the game and loomed as a strong contender.
Running back Christian McCaffrey (160 rushing and receiving yards, one touchdown) would have been hard to beat had the 49ers held on to win.
Both defences also impressed before the offences took over late in the game.

Mahomes’ latest addition to his glittering CV will continue the debate that has been raging in recent weeks over whether he’s close to reaching Tom Brady as the G.O.A.T (greatest of all time).
He’s not there yet, with Brady having won seven Super Bowls and five Super Bowl MVP awards. However, at this pace, Mahomes is on a trajectory to break those Brady records, with three championships in just seven seasons since being drafted in 2017.
