Pies in limbo as star up for grabs; Eagles’ big call on gun as rival closes in — Trade Whispers

NO MOVEMENT ON PIES VETERANS

Collingwood’s contract talks with several stalwarts including their two leading goalkickers, Jamie Elliottt and Brody Mihocek, have dragged deep into the season.

And Mihocek, 32, is reportedly gettable if a rival club tabled the forward a longer offer than the one-year extension reportedly being tabled by the Pies.

Meanwhile Elliott, who turned 33 this week, is also yet to re-sign despite having a two-year offer amid a career-best 50-goal season.

AFL Media’s Callum Twomey reports there’s “still no movement at all” on Elliott’s contract talks, with a “bit of a pull to Queensland,” having lived in the state for several years growing up.

“There’s still a watch there,” Twomey said of Elliott on SEN radio.

“I think the most likely scenario would be that Elliott stays, particularly given his form this year.”

As for Mihocek, who’s led Collingwood’s goalkicking in five seasons and booted 35 majors from 19 games this year, Twomey suggested he could have his head turned with a multi-year offer.

“But Mihocek I think is up for the taking if someone comes with a longer offer,” Twomey continued.

“His manager has been overseas in recent weeks, so that’s probably stopped that one in its tracks in recent times.

“Obviously, they’re in the chase for Jack Silvagni as well as a free agent. They’re juggling a few things after managing to get the Darcy Cameron deal done recently too.

“That was a bit of a fill up for them given that was a storyline for a long period of time and West Coast was coming hard for him.”

MCQUALTER: ‘RYAN WILL BE WITH US NEXT YEAR’

West Coast coach Andrew McQualter has declared Liam Ryan “will be with us next year” despite the forward being strongly linked with a move to St Kilda.

Reports emerged this week that Ryan’s move to the Saints was firming after the club offered the 28-year old a multi-year deal.

Ryan is contracted at the Eagles for 2026 but is believed to be weighing up his future. The 2018 premiership player could only move clubs via a trade.

But McQualter echoed Eagles footy boss Gavin Bell’s sentiment from earlier this week that Ryan is a “required player” at the club.

“Liam’s a contracted player. He’s an important player for us,” McQualter said on Thursday.

“If you read every article about player movement this time of the year, there’s 500 players changing clubs, which we know doesn’t end up happening like that.

“There’s always good players like Liam… they attract interest from other clubs which we understand.

“Liam will be with us next year.”
