Australia’s Prime Minister’s XIII clash with Papua New Guinea on Sunday will have extra meaning for soon to be brothers-in-law Reuben Garrick and Tyran Wishart.
The NRL rivals will don the green and gold in Port Moresby in a family affair after Garrick proposed to Wishart’s sister earlier this year.
Wishart is the son of former Kangaroos and Blues flyer, Rod, who represented Australia 17 times, including three matches against the Kumuls throughout his illustrious career for the Steelers and Dragons.

Wishart said he was looking forward to running out alongside brother-in-law-to-be Garrick.
“It’ll be a very cool experience for us to play together in the same jersey,” the Storm maestro told 9News Sydney ahead of his PM XIII debut.
Garrick said he was excited to add another chapter to the family’s rugby league history in what will be his first game for the PM’s XIII since 2019.
“It’s cool to come into another football family,” the Manly flyer said.

“They’ve been very welcoming of me — they’re like family now so it’s a pretty cool feeling.”
Wishart has replaced Canberra’s Hudson Young who has been called into Kangaroos camp ahead of the Pacific Championships following Panthers grand final hero Liam Martin’s withdrawal due to injury.
Fresh off his side’s 14-6 grand final defeat to the Panthers, Wishart admitted his call-up went some way to easing the agony of Sunday’s loss.
“It was definitely pleasing to get the news,” he said.
“[But] I don’t think it will ever go away — that pain of the loss.”
The PM’s XIII match kicks off at 4.05pm AEDT on Sunday right here on Fox League and Kayo.
