Fletch and Hindy went back to the future on Thursday night, airing a hilarious “unreleased” episode of ‘Rugby League Weekly Tonight’.
With just a hint of Anchorman vibes, viewers were told the show was one of “integrity, class and expensive whiskey”, a rugby league fixture watched by every rusted-on fan across Australia in the 1908s.
We are introduced to one of those loyal followers, Gary Johns of Cessnock who is settling down to dinner with his “two dimwitted” sons Andrew and Matthew to watch his favourite show.

Wait, those names sound familiar.
“Andrew put your brother down, you’re always carrying him around… hey you idiots, sit up and shut up. Joey, stop carrying him,” Johns said.
Next up we meet the RLWT panel consisting of host Gene Bush, former players Dicky Winters and Randy Pecker and a veteran journalist only known as “Fuzz”.
It reminded us of a modern day Daily Telegraph scribe with a similar sounding name.
Immediately, Fuzz was unaware they were on live television,
“Are we on? Where’s Sue? I need a water bottle, I need a water bottle,” Fuzz said.
“Great stuff,” Bush added before Fuzz replied: “Snuff? It’s in the car, I’ve got a VHS in the car”.
“I said stuff, stuff Fuzz, stuff… can someone please turn his f*****g microphone off,” Bush said while Pecker chimed in: “Put some f*****g pants on”.
It wouldn’t be the 80s without some brutal hits and RLWT didn’t disappoint
“Well Gene, I saw this clean and fair tackle and I almost had s*** all throughout my jocks, roll the tape director,” Winters said before showing vision of former Western Suburbs player Wayne Smith getting coat-hangered by a Manly opponent.
“Oh well done, I love that very much Dicky. Aim low and rip the head off,” Bush said.
Then it came to Pecker’s “eye catcher” with footage playing what can only be described as of one of the worst tackles you’ll ever see on a rugby league field.
“Well for me, you know what it was? A good old fashion spear tackle, nothing better than watching a bloke get up-ended a driven face first into the turf,” he said.
“That really got me hot and bothered.”
Oh how the times have changed.
