SINNER EYES FINAL FOUR IN SEMIS REMATCH
Back-to-back Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner looks to move a step closer to a fourth consecutive slam final against modern rival Carlos Alcaraz in his quarter-final tonight.
To make the semi-finals at Melbourne Park, the world No.2 must first win a rematch of last year’s semi-final against big-serving American Ben Shelton.
Shelton does have a win over Sinner, though it was their first ever match in 2023, and the Italian has won their last eight meetings without dropping a single set.
The winner will face Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals on Friday night, after a sore Djokovic advanced when world No.5 Lorenzo Musetti retired hurt up two sets.
It’s unclear whether Sinner will attempt to don a wearable fitness tracker after the furore that has seen the world’s best players forced to remove them, despite being approved by the International Tennis Federation.
Whoop chief executive and founder Will Ahmed declared the company was shipping more discreet versions of the trackers which could be worn in a player’s underwear.
“It’s going to take a strip search to keep Whoop off court,” he tweeted.
Sinner defended the use of the trackers earlier in the tournament.

“There is certain data what we would like to track a little bit on court. It’s not for the live thing,” he said.
“It’s more about (what) you can see after the match.
“These are datas what we would like to use also in practice sessions because from that you can practice on with the heart rate, how much calories you burn, all these kind of things.
“I mean, the umpire asked me straight away if this is the tracker. I said, ‘Yes’. He said (to) remove. It’s fine.
“There are other things we could use. It’s the vest. But it’s a bit for me uncomfortable. You feel like you have something on the shoulders. It’s a bit different.
“But rules are rules. I understand. I won’t use it again.”
Perhaps that last comment is just an attempt to mislead the umpire into not checking.
