Revealed: 16 of 18 AFL clubs represented in stacked 31-man Indigenous All-Stars squad

All-Australians Tim Kelly, Steven May and Tyson Stengle, as well as Power midfielder Jason Horne-Francis and a star Saints duo, have been added to a stacked Indigenous All-Stars squad ahead of next week’s match against Fremantle.

The AFL on Monday morning unveiled 20 new members of the Indigenous All-Stars squad, taking it to 31 players overall ahead of the pre-season hit-out against the Dockers on February 15 at Optus Stadium.

The squad, which includes seven All Australians, nine premiership players, six top-10 draft picks and three Mark of the Year winners, features players from 16 clubs. The only two not represented in the squad are the Giants and Swans.

Port Adelaide has the most representatives: Horne-Francis, Jase Burgoyne, Jeremy Finlayson and Willie Rioli.

“I’m really excited to be selected to play in the Indigenous All-Stars game. To have four boys included from Port Adelaide is great recognition for our club,” Horne-Francis said.

“It’s an honour to represent my culture on the football field, and to play alongside some of the most talented players in the league.”

There are three players each from St Kilda (Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, Brad Hill and Jade Gresham) and West Coast (Kelly, Liam Ryan and Coen Livingstone).

There are also three Fremantle players in the squad — Shai Bolton, Alex Pearce and Michael Walters — but there are injury concerns around all three players. Pearce on Saturday left match simulation early due to an ankle injury, while Bolton recently picked up a calf injury and Walters underwent a minor knee operation during the Christmas break.

Western Bulldogs defender Liam Jones has also been selected in the All-Stars squad, but is in some doubt for the game after suffering a hamstring injury during an intra-club on the weekend.

May and Jones were members of the 2013 All-Stars team.

“As a kid growing up in Darwin, I always dreamed of being part of it. I was lucky enough to play back in 2013, and it’s pretty surreal that I get that opportunity again,” May said.

“It’s a privilege to represent our culture on the big stage. It’s also a great chance for us to come together, from different cultures and backgrounds, to play the game that we all love. Hopefully we can put on a good show.”

For the first time since 2015, the game’s best Indigenous players will come together in one team in the 2025 Toyota AFL Indigenous All-Stars match against the Dockers.

Adelaide Crows young gun Izak Rankine, Hawthorn defender Jarman Impey, premiership Lions Charlie Cameron and Callum Ah Chee, premiership Demon Kysaiah Pickett and 2023 Norm Smith Medallist Bobby Hill, as well as Brad Hill, Ryan, Bolton, Pearce and Walters were the 11 members initially named in the squad.

Indigenous All-Stars Head Coach Xavier Clarke said he was: in a fortunate position of having so much talent to work with”.

“It was fantastic to see so many players available to play in the game. It’s an exciting squad and I can’t wait to coach such a great list of players against Fremantle,” Clarke said.

“I can’t wait to see the boys put on a show.”
