Revealed: Four clubs dominate — and four others snubbed — as 44-man All-Aus squad unveiled

Four clubs have dominated the 2025 All-Australian squad, with five players from the Crows, Lions, Suns and Dogs selected.

The AFL on Tuesday announced the 44-man squad for the 2025 All-Australian team, which will be narrowed down to a 22-man team on Thursday night at the AFL Awards ceremony.

There are 18 players who’ve earned selection in the squad for the first time. Of the 44 players, 28 are vying for their first All-Australian team selection.

Adelaide, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Western Bulldogs have the equal-most players selected in the squad, with five each.

Two key members of Adelaide’s much-improved defence were rewarded, with Mark Keane and Josh Worrell earning squad selection for the first time. Captain Jordan Dawson — a 2023 All-Australian — is also in the mix, as well as forward duo Riley Thilthorpe and Izak Rankine, with the latter recently heading overseas in the wake of his four-game ban for a homophobic slur.

Brisbane star Hugh McCluggage is one of five Lions in the squad, alongside Harris Andrews, Zac Bailey, Josh Dunkley, and Dayne Zorko. McCluggage will be hoping for a case of fifth time lucky as he’s made the squad in four previous seasons but never made the final 22 cut.

Gold Coast’s surge up the ladder this season was recognised, with Noah Anderson, Sam Collins, Ben King, Ben Long and Matt Rowell all in line for selection. None of the five players have made the All-Australian team before.

Melbourne captain Max Gawn was one of only three ruck options selected in the squad alongside Sydney’s Brodie Grundy and Fremantle’s Luke Jackson. Should Gawn be selected on Thursday night, he’d become the seventh player in AFL history with eight All-Australian blazers.

Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli is in line to be picked in the final team for a seventh time.
Some of the most surprising squad snubs include North Melbourne’s Tristan Xerri, St Kilda’s Cal Wilkie and Essendon’s Zach Merrett.

The 2025 All Australian selection panel is Andrew Dillon (Chair), Eddie Betts, Jude Bolton, Nathan Buckley, Kane Cornes, Abbey Holmes, Glen Jakovich, Laura Kane and Matthew Pavlich.
