The Sydney Roosters and Melbourne Storm have both been handed breach notices and fines by the NRL for separate violations across the last two years.
The league on Friday confirmed the Roosters had breached salary cap rules, while the Storm infringed team selection protocols. Both are only considered minor offences.
An audit into the Roosters found they went $38,356 over the 2024 supplementary list and training wage salary cap.

“While the breach is at the lower end of the scale, it is proposed that the club will be issued with a fine of $36,070, which reflects the balance of the club’s supplementary list and training wage overspend when applied against an underspend with respect to its top 30 salary cap calculation in 2024,” the NRL said in a statement.
“It is also proposed that the amount of $36,070 is applied to the club’s future supplementary list and training wage salary cap calculation.”

Meanwhile a review found the Storm failed to follow the proper process with team selection on at least two separate occasions in 2025 involving a player on a training contract.
The Storm has been given a $25,000 fine, with half of it suspended for two years.
While clubs would normally be given multiple days to respond, the two teams have been afforded “extended opportunity,” given the time of the year.
