Sakharov Prize 2023: press conference today  at 11.00 | News | European Parliament

WHEN: Tuesday 12 December at 11.00 CET

WHERE: Press conference room Daphne Caruana Galizia, European Parliament in Strasbourg

Representatives of the 2023 Sakharov Prize laureates will be present at the press conference:

– Mrs Afsoon Najafi, Iranian women’s rights defender ;

– Mrs Mersedeh Shahinkar, Iranian women’s rights defender ;

– Mr Saleh Nikbakht, academic, lawyer representing Jina Mahsa Amini’s family.

The award ceremony takes place on Tuesday 12 December at 11.30 in the hemicycle in Strasbourg, after the press conference.

Interpretation of the press conference will be available in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Polish and Farsi.

You can follow it live from 11.00 in Parliament’s Daphne Caruana Galizia press room ; via Parliament’s webstreaming or via EbS.

Background

The European Parliament’s Sakharov Prize 2023 was awarded to Jina Mahsa Amini and the Woman, Life, Freedom Movement in Iran. European Parliament President Roberta Metsola announced the 2023 laureate in the Strasbourg plenary chamber on Thursday 19 October 2023.
