Kiwi all-rounder Sophie Devine starred with the bat and contributed with the ball for the Perth Scorchers in their easy WBBL win over the Brisbane Heat on Thursday night.
The Scorchers captain made 106 off just 62 balls, and backed it up with the bowling figures of 2-33 as Perth beat the Heat by 39 runs at Allan Border Field.
Sent into bat after the Heat won the toss, the Scorchers – aided by some sloppy fielding from Brisbane – reached 3-192 from their 20 overs, with Devine and fellow opener Beth Mooney (50 off 42 balls) setting the tone with a first-wicket partnership of 131.

The Heat never seriously threatened to reach the winning target of 193 as they were hampered by a steady flow of wickets.
Opener Georgia Redmayne (53 off 44 balls) was the best of the Brisbane batters but it wasn’t enough, with the Heat bowled out for 153 in 17.3 overs to lose back-to-back matches.
Piepa Cleary took three wickets for the Scorchers, who secured their fifth win of the season.
Devine, who has now made four WBBL centuries, said she and Mooney “struggled to get into a flow early on”.
“We both knew if we stuck it out, we knew at this ground that you can score heavily in the back end of the innings,” she said.
“We’ve got a really special partnership at the top of the order. We have so much respect for one another.
“We’re so different as well in terms of how we play the game but it just seems to work.”
