Second Silvagni suitor emerges; Tigers lead race for snubbed livewire — Trade Whispers

A second suitor is said to have emerged for unsigned Carlton swingman Jack Silvagni.

Meanwhile, a Victorian powerhouse is reportedly leading the chase for out-of-favour Gold Coast forward Malcolm Rosas Jnr.

VIC RIVAL EMERGES AS SECOND SILVAGNI SUITOR

The Western Bulldogs have reportedly joined the race for Jack Silvagni’s services this off-season, reports The Age.

While Collingwood has been the club strongly linked in recent days to a move for the unrestricted free agent, the Dogs are understood to have arisen as a competitor for the Carlton father-son’s signature.

The Bulldogs boast the league’s best offence — number one in the AFL for points for, inside-50 differential and time in forward half — but a lacklustre defensive operation remains their biggest weakness amid a teetering run to September.

Luke Beveridge’s side sits ninth for points against, ninth for allowing opposition shots at goal, and ninth for opposition chain-to-score rate, with swingman Rory Lobb and three-gamer Jedd Busslinger set to go into Thursday night’s season-defining clash with GWS as the club’s key-defensive pillars.

The Age’s report states Silvagni ‘appeals to the Bulldogs because of his versatility’, with the 27-year-old impressing this year as an intercept defender — before a groin injury stunted his progress — after spending the majority of his career-to-date as a forward.

Nine’s Tom Morris also reported on Wednesday night the Dogs are ‘weighing up a play’ for Silvagni but noted Collingwood is ‘further progressed in its chase’, with coach Craig McRae on Wednesday confirming he’d met with the injured Blue.

Reports have indicated that Collingwood’s four-year contract offer to Silvagni, roughly $650,000 per season, is around about the same as the Blues offered the 128-gamer to stay at Princes Park — where his father and grandfather famously built the family name.

TIGERS LEADING RACE FOR OVERLOOKED SUN

Richmond is reportedly at the front of the queue for out-of-favour Gold Coast livewire Malcolm Rosas Jnr.

The 24-year-old, who was told at the end of last season he was free to explore his options elsewhere amid tough competition for spots in Damien Hardwick’s side, is out of contract this year and wouldn’t cost much at the trade table.

The Tigers, seemingly in the market for more young talent to aid their rebuild under second-year senior coach Adem Yze, are leading ‘a growing number of clubs interested’ in Rosas’ services, reports AFL Media’s Michael Whiting.

Smaller forwards Seth Campbell, Rhyan Mansell, Maurice Rioli Jnr and Steely Green all played last Sunday in Richmond’s loss to Collingwood, with draftee Jasper Alger also in the mix as the substitute.

After just seven senior outings and 12 goals last season, Rosas has played at AFL level only three times this year for one major as the Suns trend towards their maiden finals berth in Hardwick’s second campaign at the helm.

The 48-gamer has played 13 VFL matches for the Suns this season, averaging 18.0 disposals per game and booting 11 goals.

Whiting reports Sydney is another with interest in the Gold Coast Academy product; a smooth-moving, pacy left-footer with the capability to play up around the ball in stints.
