The pro wrestling world turns its eyes onto Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field on Monday (from 9am AEST) with one simple question – surely WWE can’t stuff it up again?
Roman Reigns’ 1317-day reign as WWE Universal Champion goes on the line as Cody Rhodes, for the second straight year, tries to finally dethrone the man who now owns the record for the most WrestleMania main events (nine).
Last year Rhodes’ loss was a shock, sparking nine months of booking issues for the company with its main title rarely available given Reigns’ part-time schedule. By the time 2024 began, with The Rock featuring heavily on route to the night one WrestleMania main event where he pinned Rhodes, the company was back red-hot.

But now the question is clear; will the company finally pull the trigger, moving the Bloodline story into the next phase without having to tie down the title, and let Rhodes lead the way until an inevitable match with The Rock down the line?
Or will they look at Reigns’ reign, which only needs to run another five months to pass Hulk Hogan’s and become the longest in modern WWE history – behind only the uncatchable 2803-day run of WWWF legend Bruno Sammartino – and ask ‘well, surely Cody can afford one more loss?’
It would be shocking – and Triple H’s booking since taking command has rarely been shocking. It was blatantly hammered into viewers’ heads after night one that there is SURELY, absolutely NO way Rhodes can overcome The Bloodline again, DEFINITELY not… but perhaps all this predictability has been so they can produce the biggest swerve of all.
