It was the Bathurst moment that went viral – but Chaz Mostert’s mid-race beer with fans at Mount Panorama proved the turning point of the Supercars champion’s year.
Down and almost out after his DNF at the Bathurst 1000 in October, Mostert calmly walked into a nearby paddock and downed a beer with locals much to the delight of the crowd.

And that moment would go on to spark an incredible fightback that saw Mostert crowned the 2025 series champion on Sunday.
“Instead of us just going, that’s down and out – that was heartbreaking for every single team member,” he shared.
“The grit of this team and the prep they do for Bathurst every single time … when that (DNF) broke every single person, it was redemption and it was game on.

“We put our arms all around each other – everyone chipped in harder than ever.
“We used this finals series as redemption for Bathurst.”
Together with his wingman Ryan Wood – who helped fight off Mostert’s challengers in the finals series races, Mostert stood tall late in the year to deliver Walkinshaw Andretti United a stunning championship crown.
Speaking after his win, a clearly stunned Mostert shared the depths his parents went to just to ensure he could one day have a shot in the Supercars field.
“A lot of people sacrificed to get me here today,” he said.
“Mum and dad … they gave up everything to get me here. Such a spoilt kid coming through – didn’t know what a dollar was worth.
“Dad was like … if you want to go from go-kart to Formula Ford we’ll raise the money somehow.
“Put the house on the line without knowing what that meant being so young – I just wanted to race cars!
“It paid off.
“It’s one for the underdogs.
“It’s so nice to pay them all back – to say they got behind some bogan Aussie out the back of Munruben there and got me to where my dream is.”

Paying tribute to his late mother, Mostert said it felt like fate when he realised the band Jet was playing in Adelaide on Saturday night.
“Chaz is a little bit of a loose unit,” he smiled.
“I went to the Jet concert last night … Jet was my mum’s favourite band so unfortunately I lost my mum when I was coming through the support categories. A couple of years ago I lost one guy Paul Senior that got me through Formula Ford into development series – I wouldn’t be here without those guys today.
“So going to Jet last night I felt like I had all the luck on my side.”
Mostert had been a three-time third place finisher in the Supercars championship standings leading into Sunday.
But Sunday night he was crowned champion.

“Everything feels like a blur,” he said.
“I’ll probably sit in the bottom of the shower for a good 20 minutes … maybe have some steak and chips.”
Fittingly, Mostert wrapped up the series win in Adelaide – where he debuted for WAU more than five years earlier.
He becomes the 28th driver to win the series and the third straight to win a maiden title (after Will Brown in 2024 and Brodie Kostecki in 2023).
