‘Sorry, you don’t get to bowl’: Star BBL recruit gives up century, then thrown out in nightmare debut

Shaheen Shah Afridi’s life in the BBL got off to a rocky start.

He finished with figures of 0-43, with the difficult night capped off by him being thrown out mid-over for bowling dangerously.

Afridi’s first over in the power play went for nine, which was not a bad result considering what was to come for the Heat’s bowling attack.

His second, in the power surge, went for 19 with a six and two fours proving to be costly for the man nicknamed ‘The Eagle’.

But it was his third set that proved to be a nightmare for both Afridi and the Heat, starting with a six from young gun Ollie Peake who dispatched a full toss.

The next ball went for one, but what followed was the first of a string of hip high no balls, with Seifert reaching his ton, swatting the ball away for two.

The free hit delivery was executed well, conceding only one run as the ball seared in at Seifert’s toes, and the next was squirted on to point for a single, with the ball again deemed to be a no ball.

The subsequent free hit resulted in a single, with Jack Wildermuth taking an impressive catch before the Pakistan gun again missed, almost striking the helmet of Peake.

From there, the umpire made the decision to drag him out of the attack in a sorry ending for one of the BBL’s most high-profile recruits.

“That’s his night done,” Adam Gilchrist said.

“He’s bowled two deliveries about waist high in the same over, that’s enough for the umpire to say ‘sorry, you don’t get to bowl again’.”

Michael Vaughan then added: “They are deemed dangerous”.

He left with a final over scorecard of 6-1-3Nb-1-2Nb-1-3Nb.

Nathan McSweeney made the decision to bowl the final two balls of Afridi’s over and was reverse swept for a four and slogged for a single by Peake.

Afridi also struggled with the bat, producing two swings and misses before being bowled for a duck.
