Alex Marquez has won his second British Grand Prix sprint in the past three years and broken older brother Marc Marquez’s stranglehold on MotoGP sprints in 2025, the Gresini Ducati rider triumphant at Silverstone on Saturday.

Alex Marquez, who had finished second to his older sibling in all six sprints held this season, bounced back from a bruising Saturday morning practice crash to take the lead from Marc Marquez on lap two of the 10-lap sprint and never looked back, winning by 3.511 seconds to add to his 2023 victory in the Silverstone sprint.
Italian Fabio Di Giannantonio came through from seventh on the grid to finish third, Ducati continuing its lockout of every podium place in all seven sprints this season.

Alex Marquez took the lead when Marc Marquez ran wide at turn three on the second lap, both siblings having overtaken Yamaha’s pole-sitter Fabio Quartararo, the Frenchman taking his third straight pole with a lap of 1min 57.233secs that broke the Silverstone lap record.
The Gresini rider broke the race open when he increased his advantage from four-tenths of a second to 1.7secs across laps eight and nine, and slashed his championship deficit to Marc Marquez to 19 points with his third career sprint victory.
“We did everything in the perfect way,” Alex Marquez said.
“We did a little mistake, the start was not a really nice one, but later on when he [Marc Marquez] went a little bit wide, I said ‘OK, I need to do my pace until the end’. I had a really good feeling with the bike, I was enjoying a lot.”

Australia’s Jack Miller, who qualified sixth for Yamaha, scored his first points for seven starts with ninth place, the Pramac Yamaha snapping a run of outs since he finished fifth in the Grand Prix of the Americas in March.
Di Giannantonio demoted compatriot Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) off the podium with three laps left, while Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia) and Johann Zarco (Honda) overtook the two-time world champion on the final lap, Bagnaia falling to sixth ahead of seventh-placed Quartararo, who wasn’t able to sustain his one-lap qualifying heroics across 10 laps.
The 20-lap British Grand Prix, round seven of the 22-round MotoGP season, will take place at 10pm on Sunday (AEST).
