Thomas Frank’s first competitive match in charge of Tottenham has ended in heartbreak, with Spurs losing the UEFA Super Cup against Paris St-Germain in Udine in penalties.
Tottenham were leading 2-0 with six minutes of regulation time remaining courtesy of goals from Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero. However, PSG sent the contest to penalties after Lee Kang-In found the back of the net in 85th minute and Gonçalo Ramos tied the scores late in stoppage time.
Spurs raced towards a 2-0 lead in penalties after Vitinha botched PSG’s first attempt, but misses from Mathys Tel and an de Ven meant the French outfit won the shootout 4-3.

“You can see that the Tottenham players are hurting,” former Tottenham midfielder Aaron Lennon said on BBC Radio 5 Live.
“As a player you know games which you should win and this was one of them.
“Five minutes to go, 2-0 up, see it out. Even when it goes to 2-1, you’ve got to know how to see a game out.
“Tottenham didn’t handle that well enough.”
Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson continued: “It’s heartbreak for Tottenham.
“In the next 24-48 hours, Thomas Frank has to go back to the training ground, unpack it, show the players video of everything they did well and put the belief back into them.
“At the moment they are so low that they could crawl under a snake’s belly with a top hat on. Frank needs to pick them up.”
Tottenham will next face Burnley on Saturday for their Premier League season opener.
