Australian T20 captain Mitch Marsh is facing a major World Cup injury concern with Steve Smith being rushed across the Indian Ocean to join the squad as cover.
With the Aussies beginning their campaign against Ireland tonight it’s a major blow to an already weakened squad also missing Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc.

Marsh has suffered a testicular injury after a blow to the groin at training which will at least force him to miss tonight’s opener.
“He is experiencing ongoing pain and discomfort which is restricting his movement,” Cricket Australia said.
“Scans have confirmed internal testicular bleeding, and he will require a period of rest and rehabilitation. His return to play will be guided by symptom resolution and medical advice.
“Standby player Steve Smith will travel to Sri Lanka as cover to acclimatise and prepare, should he be required.”
Smith had been surprisingly snubbed from the squad despite impressive form including in the Big Bash, with widespread calls to name him.
“Better late than never,” Fox Cricket’s Mark Waugh quipped on social media after the news of Smith’s inclusion broke.
“Hurry up!”
Smith was in Adelaide on Wednesday playing in the LIV Golf pro-am event alongside Aussie star Cam Smith.
But the Aussie Test superstar is now flying to Sri Lanka imminently, where the side plays its group stage matches.
Australia faces Zimbabwe on February 13, Sri Lanka on February 16 (early next day AEDT) and Oman on February 20 (early next day AEDT).
