The 23-year-old has been linked to a return home to Western Australia but showed his intense passion for the Swans after their win in Perth this past weekend, grabbing at the jumper in celebration.
He is also believed to be close with coach Dean Cox, who has been at the club for Warner’s entire career.
Despite that both Fremantle and West Coast have held hopes of luring across the out-of-contract West Aussie on a lucrative, long-term deal as early as this off-season.
But multiple reports emerged on Tuesday night suggesting Warner is expected to sign a two-year extension until the end of 2027.
It would keep Warner at the Swans until he is eligible to become a free agent, when he could walk to the club of his choice without requiring a trade.
That could end up helping the Eagles or Dockers, who would have to spend fewer assets to sign him in a couple of years’ time.
AFL Media’s Cal Twomey has reported the Swans are offering around $1.3-1.4 million over two years on the short-term extension.
Meanwhile Seven’s Mitch Cleary explained Warner has been in talks with his family and agent while staying in Perth ever since Sunday night’s win over Fremantle.
Cleary said there was “optimism” around him signing a two-year deal at Sydney, with talks having accelerated because of the Swans’ unusual early-season bye.
“If Chad Warner hasn’t signed in the next two or three weeks it would be a surprise to those around this situation,” he added.
