Nweke bravely opted to sign for the NSW Swifts in 2025 – knowing her decision to leave New Zealand’s ANZ Premiership competition would rule her ineligible for Silver Ferns selection.
But Sydney fans will have to wait until Round 2 to cheer on their star recruit with the NSW Swifts heading west to take on the West Coast Fever in a blockbuster clash to see out Round 1.

The 2025 season will officially open on Saturday April 5 with a grand final rematch at Adelaide Entertainment Centre, with the Vixens out for revenge against reigning premiers the Thunderbirds.
The Sunshine Coast Lightning will travel to Melbourne to meet the Mavericks while the Giants will host the Queensland Firebirds.
The opening round fixture also ensures Queensland netball fans will be forced to wait until Round 2 to see their international recruits in action – with Mary Cholhok (Uganda) and Imogen Allison (England) joining the squad.
Netball Australia CEO Stacey West said she was excited to see Nweke unveiled in Perth – a State where netball fans continue to break attendance records.
“Grace is going to have an incredible impact – we are thrilled she’s coming across to join the competition in 2025,” she said.
“What better place to pop her in Round 1 into the Green Army, full RAC Arena – it doesn’t get any better than that.
“I know the Swifts do enjoy that challenge of heading to the west… but I reckon the Sydney crowd will welcome her home pretty strongly after that.”
West admits the fixture was a timely task that had “taken months to build”, but she was happy with the outcome.
The Fever – who in years past have travelled double the distance of any other Super Netball team – still have a tough mid-season stretch where they play five of seven games interstate.
But they’ll also host the season’s only Friday night match – against the Adelaide Thunderbirds in Round 11.

“We work really closely with the Fever year on year … we will say for season 2025, their away games is really a result of venue availability,” West said.
“We were really working with RAC Arena, what was available and then how we would partner that with their away and home travel.
“It’s not lost on us the significance of travel.”
The Thunderbirds are another side with a tough draw – including four away games in five matches between rounds four and eight.
The 2025 season will also see a split round for the Easter/ANZAC duration in Round 3, with no games played on Saturday April 19.
The Lightning, Firebirds, Vixens and Fever will enjoy the fortnight’s break first, before the Mavericks, Giants, Thunderbirds and Swifts get the same break a week later.

The Mavericks’ Round 6 clash with the Firebirds will be the only match played in Tasmania in 2025.
The league is yet to reveal what the pre-season Team Girls Cup, the Super Netball Reserves competition and the Super Netball finals are set to look like.
