On Tuesday, the 19-year-old copped backlash after he was bowled by Victorian seamer Boland for 10 having attempted a slog-sweep in third over of New South Wales’ first innings. The right-hander, who burst onto the scene with a dazzling performance during the recent Boxing Day Test against India at the MCG, had earlier nailed a reverse ramp over the slips cordon for a boundary.
However, Konstas was noticeably more measured with his approach in the second innings, only attacking deliveries that were overpitched or dropped short. After surviving 44 deliveries in the middle, he flashed at wide delivery from Boland with minimal footwork and picked out Tom Rogers at point, trudging off for 17.
Earlier, Victoria was bowled out or 182 in 60.1 overs to give the hosts a 51-run lead in the first innings. Veteran seamer Jackson Bird and young gun Hanno Jacobs each snared three wickets, while rising star Harry Dixon top-scored for the tourists with a flashy 38.
Victorian quick Fergus O’Neill struck with his first delivery of the second innings, producing a peach that knocked over Blues opener Nic Maddinson for 1 before Konstas and Kurtis Patterson combined for a 42-run partnership for the second wicket.
New South Wales was 2-43 at tea on day two, leading by 99 runs, with Patterson unbeaten on 22.
