The annual Indian Premier League auction is set to take place on Tuesday night and 21 Australian cricketers have put their names in the hat to be picked up.

In total 333 players have been short-listed for auction and 119 of those are overseas players as the franchises prepare to cheque books in a bid to take home the title.

The 2024 auction will also be the first time in the competition’s history the spectacle will be held outside of India, with Dubai playing host.

Watch the IPL Auction from 6:30pm AEDT on Tuesday December 19 on Fox Cricket, via Kayo. New to Kayo? Start Your Free Trial Today >

116 of those who have been short-listed are capped players, 215 are uncapped and two are from associate nations.

Of the total players available to purchase, a maximum of 77 can be bought with 30 of those available being allotted for overseas players.

This auction is classed as a mini auction and is the last one before another mega edition ahead of the 2025 IPL season.

This auction takes place after the 10 franchises have retained the players they want to keep and traded others, with this set of stars to be bought to fill the remaining squad spaces.

Interestingly only three Indian players have been named in the highest reserve price bracket, Harshal Patel, Shardul Thakur and Umesh Yadav, who can be bought for INR 2 crore ($357k AUD).

A total of 23 players have been named in this price bracket, with Travis Head, Steve Smith, Pat Cummins, Josh Inglis, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Sean Abbott nominating.

Ahead of the 2024 season, several Australians have already been retained by their respective teams.

David Warner ($1.16m) and Mitch Marsh ($1.2m) will remain with the Delhi Capitals while Matthew Wade ($446,000) will stay with the Gujurat Titans.

Marcus Stoinis ($1.7m) will once again play for the Lucknow Super Giants while the Mumbai Indians play host to Jason Behrendorff ($135,000) and Tim David ($1.53m).

Nathan Ellis ($135,000) will represent the Punjab Kings while Adam Zampa ($270,000) will play for the Rajasthan Royals.

Cameron Green has also been traded from the Mumbai Indians, with Royal Challengers Bangalore taking up his whopping $3.15m deal as well as Glenn Maxwell ($2m).
