It was McIlroy’s second ace on the PGA Tour in his career, after making his first at the Travelers Championship in 2023, and it came as he hit a perfect wedge from 119 yards, which was playing 112 yards due to the downhill nature of the par 3 15th hole at Spyglass Hill Golf Course.
On the broadcast, fans could simply hear the ball crash into the flag before staying in the cup which put a massive grin on McIlroy’s face as he celebrated by high fiving his caddie, Harry Diamond, and his playing partners, Ryder Cup teammate Ludvig Aberg and amateurs Jeff Rhodes and Jimmy Dunne.

“How about that? In the hole. Unbelievable!” the commentator proclaimed.
“He flies it in, Rory McIlroy. I’d say that was a good line.
“No putts required at 15.”
The ace could also be an omen for the Northern Irishman who, in his first PGA Tour start of the season, carded a three-under par opening nine on the secondary course for this week’s tournament.
His hole-in-one was the sixth in a PGA Tour event on Spyglass Hill’s par 3 15th hole with the most recent one being made by Justin Rose in 2023, who went on to lift the trophy that week.
McIlroy will no doubt be hopeful of making that a trend.
