BLUES JOIN RACE FOR PORT STAR
Carlton has emerged as a potential landing destination for Port Adelaide star Dan Houston who is seeking a trade back to Victoria this year.
Melbourne have been considered the frontrunner to acquire Houston’s services in recent times, but Houston has reportedly had a change of heart.
AFL Media’s Cal Twomey revealed on Gettable that Houston’s situation had “flipped on its head” in the past fortnight.
“The Dan Houston situation has flipped over the past ten days or so, they are now in a fascinating spot where he is a player who has four years to run on his contract at Port Adelaide, he might’ve played his last game depending on how the Tribunal sees his hit on Izak Rankine,” Twomey began.
“This is delicately poised, he doesn’t want to go to Melbourne as we revealed last week, he did, but he doesn’t now.
“It does limit the options of where he could go because who has the picks to make it happen and who has the selections to appease Port Adelaide to let him go where he’s contracted and could be a back-to-back All-Australian.”
Twomey revealed that Carlton coach Michael Voss had been in touch with Houston in the past week.
“Carlton is interested in Houston and has been considering its approach for him. It’s my information that Michael Voss may have been in touch with Houston over the last week or so to get a read on his situation.
“Of course they did spend a lot of time together at Port Adelaide where Vossy was an assistant coach. I think at this stage Carlton would be more prepared to offer a future first round pick, but that’s not the market that Port Adelaide is going to be playing in.
“There’s a reason clubs don’t want to tap out of the early part of this year’s draft, because it’s very, very good. Ball movement is gold, silver and bronze in the AFL, he is so central to that. Carlton should be a club that is targeting him to fix up that part of their game.”
Twomey also said North Melbourne could throw their hat in the ring but would likely offer up future picks rather than selections for this year’s draft.

SWANS STAR SHEDS LIGHT ON FUTURE
Sydney Swans veteran Luke Parker remains coy over his future as speculation continues to mount on his where he will play his footy in 2025.
The ex-captain has worked his way back into John Longmire’s side in recent weeks after a broken arm and suspension curtailed the start of his campaign.
Parker says he is focussed on his side’s finals tilt but didn’t rule out a move away from the club he has played 289 games for.
“At the moment, I’m contracted, so we’ll see,” Parker told AAP.
“I’m just enjoying playing at the moment… I’m just taking every opportunity I can at the moment and just enjoying my footy.”
Parker has been linked to North Melbourne in recent weeks, after Roos coach Alastair Clarkson made it clear that his side would be targeting experienced players over the off-season.
Parker is currently contracted at the Swans until the end of 2025 but has been ousted from his club’s midfield brigade this year and forced to spend more time in the forward line.
The 2012 premiership player has won three Bob Skilton Medals as the Swans’ best and fairest and was also a member of the All-Australian side in 2016.
