World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler has won the FedEx Cup playoffs’ BMW Championship in Maryland after snatching the title away from Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre on Monday (AEST).
Meanwhile, there will be no Australian presence in the season-ending Tour Championship for the first time this century after a final-round collapse from Jason Day.
MacIntyre had a four-stroke lead after three rounds but slipped to second on the standings after posting a three-over 73 on Sunday. The 29-year-old was still in the running until Scheffler nailed a chip-in birdie to take a two-shot lead on the penultimate hole.
Scheffler scored a fourth-round 67 to finish 15-under overall while Day posted a three-over 73, dropping to tied 23rd. The 2015 PGA Championship winner and New Zealander Ryan Fox both missed the top-30 cut-off for season points, meaning they won’t advance to next week’s Tour Championship in Atlanta.

Elsewhere, American Ben Griffin endured a nightmare final round headlined by a four-putt from four feet for triple bogey and a wayward drive out of bounds that resulted in a double bogey. However, he battled back to shoot 1-under 69.
Afterwards, the 29-year-old blamed his poor performance on a large dose of the supplement creatine, which left him shaking and considering withdrawing from the tournament.
“I didn’t take it until I basically tee’d off on 1. I was at the end of my batch. I had basically a snowball of creatine, so had been in my bucket for a month, and broke it up and put in any water bottle,” Griffin explained.
“I started taking it after my second shot and I accidentally swallowed one of the big rocks in my water bottle. I’ve never overdosed on creatine before, but I think I did in the moment because I didn’t really drink any water after that. I basically just inhaled a snowball.
“I’ve never felt like that before and I felt like I had tremors. I like was freaking out and didn’t know what to do.
“I’m very proud of the way I bounced back.”
