Australian freeskier Daisy Thomas has suffered another setback ahead of her Winter Olympics debut, crashing during a big air training session on Wednesday.
The Australian Olympic team released a statement confirming the 18-year-old rotated on her left ski and landed on her right shoulder during her fourth and final jump of the training session, sustaining a minor shoulder injury.
“Medical staff will monitor and review again tomorrow to assess her progress,” the statement added.

Thomas, who tore her ACL during last November’s World Cup freeski big air event in China, had already been ruled out of the slopestyle event after crashing during a training session in Livigno last week, following which she re-injured her knee and had to be stretchered off the course. She was expected to be a medal contender in the slopestyle before the setback, but symptoms settled enough that she could still compete in the big air.
The women’s freeski big air qualifiers commence on Sunday at 5.30am AEDT.

‘A LOT TO HANDLE’: AUSSIE’S NERVOUS WAIT AFTER SICKENING CRASH
Australian snowboarder Emily Arthur was forced to wait ten minutes ahead of her second qualifying run during Wednesday’s halfpipe qualifiers after one of her competitors suffered a sickening crash.
China’s Liu Jiayu was stretchered off the course after hurting herself during her final trick, delaying Arthur’s run in nervous scenes for the 27-year-old.
“It is a lot to handle,” Arthur later told Australian reporters.
“It happened to me at World Champs in Georgia and it really rattled me because I was next and I saw what happened.
“I didn’t see anything (today) but I heard everyone, then I heard the sled be called.”
Arthur ultimately failed to qualify for the finals after crashing while attempting a difficult second trick, finishing 24th in qualifiers.
