DOGS WANT TOP 10 PICK FOR BAILEY SMITH
The Western Bulldogs have asked for a top 10 pick in the national draft from Geelong in exchange for Bailey Smith, according to the Herald Sun.
The Dogs have been reluctant to move the out-of-contract midfielder for Geelong’s first-round pick — the No. 17 selection — after Dogs list boss Sam Power said they “expect a lot” for the 23-year old.
The Cats currently hold picks 17, 38 and 57 in this draft and the Dogs own selections 35 and 48.
If necessary, Smith’s management is reportedly confident Smith could get to Geelong via the national draft — a move the clubs have been urged to avoid.
The former Pick 7 missed the entire 2024 season due to an ACL injury.
EAGLES EXPLORING NEW BAKER TRADE, WEIGHING UP LATEST BARRASS OFFER
West Coast is exploring other ways it can land Liam Baker and is considering a revised offer for Tom Barrass ahead of the second week of the trade period.
The Eagles’ plans were thrown out on Friday when Hawthorn and Carlton completed a trade involving Pick 14, which West Coast had been eyeing in the Barrass deal to forward to Richmond for Baker.
AFL Media reports Baker’s management and the Eagles are discussing a new deal between West Coast and Richmond that would see the 26-year old make the move west.
The new talks would also ensure West Coast wouldn’t need to rely on trading Barrass before it can acquire Baker.
It’s believed Hawthorn’s latest offer for Barrass is a future first-round pick and a second rounder (either tied to Hawthorn or Carlton), with a future later pick also going back to West Coast.
The Eagles could yet split their Pick 3, which Carlton is targeting, for multiple selections to give them more capital to manoeuvre moves.
If Baker’s bid to get to West Coast falls through, Fremantle looms in the background, having offered its trio of first-round selections for Baker and Shai Bolton.

GIANTS MEET WITH PATON, REJECT RIVAL ADVANCES
Uncontracted Saints defender Ben Paton has met with the Giants as GWS assesses the market for ready-made replacements for losing experience throughout the trade and free agency period.
GWS has already lost Harry Perryman to Collingwood and Isaac Cumming to Adelaide in free agency and is set to trade James Peatling to the Crows.
And so AFL Media reports the Giants are looking at Paton as a possible delisted rookie selection after the exchange window closes next Wednesday.
Paton, 25, is currently among many AFL players in limbo for 2025, yet to be offered a contract. He played just four of his 71 senior games this year under Ross Lyon.
Among those Giants facing the exit door is Xavier O’Halloran, who has mutual interest in a move to the Western Bulldogs with the lure of a longer contract.
AFL Media reports the Dogs have thrown up trade offers to the Giants for O’Halloran, but the GWS has fended off such advances for the contracted 24-year old midfielder.
The Giant have also rejected Melbourne’s interest in Wade Derksen, who’s contracted for 2025.
