‘I’ll be back to make weight you motherf***er’: UFC fan favourite’s fiery message after close call

Alexander Volkanovski and Diego Lopes successfully made weight as UFC 314’s championship fight for the main event was locked in.

However, Saturday morning’s (AEST) weigh-in was not without drama as Jean Silva initially failed to make weight for his fight against Bryce Mitchell.

Silva, who has had plenty to say throughout the week and helped instigate a “f*** Bryce Mitchell chant” at Friday’s press conference, had a message for reporters at the official weigh-in, guaranteeing he would shed the extra pound.

“It’s not over yet,” Silva said in Portuguese according to MMA Fighting’s Guilherme Cruz. “Don’t you want a journey of suffering? I’ll make weight. I’ll make this f***ing weight. Bryce Mitchell, I’ll break you. It’s not over, I’ll be back and make weight to (inaudible) you, motherf***er.”

Fortunately Silva backed up the talk, returning for a second time to successfully make weight.

Nora Cornolle, on the other hand, was the only fighter to miss weight having initially come in at 138 pounds, which is two pounds over the non-title limit, for her bantamweight bout against Hailey Cowan.

She too was given another chance to weigh in but came in at 137.5 pounds, which was still over the limit.

As a result, the UFC later confirmed the fight would be going ahead but at catchweight with Cornolle forfeiting 20 percent of her purse.
