Max King’s mega contract at St Kilda still isn’t going to plan with the 24-year-old needing more surgery on his knee.
The key forward signed a deal until the end of 2032 last October, believed to be worth around $1 million per season.
But he hasn’t played a game on that contract yet after suffering an injury in an intra-club match in February, which has twice required surgery.

King will undergo a second knee arthroscope in the space of six weeks with the Saints saying it is to “remove the pain Max has been experiencing”.
“We understand the interest in Max, however, ask his privacy is respected at this time,” they added.
“Once we have more clarity on Max’s recovery we’ll look to share a return-to-play timeline.”
Multiple reports have stated King is facing at least four more weeks on the sidelines.
The former Pick 4 has been injury-prone since even before he was drafted, tearing his ACL in his draft year.
Since his debut in 2020, King has played 83 games but just 23 over the last two seasons due to various issues. By comparison Connor Rozee, taken one pick later in the 2018 draft, has played 134 games.
King kicked 41 goals in 22 games in 2022, and bagged 28 in 11 games in 2023 showing his immense promise, but struggled at times in 2024 with 19 goals across 12 matches.
The Saints’ decision to hand King a long-term deal was questioned due to his track record though few dispute his potential.
