A number of Socceroos and Matildas stars found themselves amongst the goals over the weekend with some spectacular efforts.

Socceroos midfielder Connor Metcalfe almost burst a hole in the net thanks to his long-range pile-driver for FC St Pauli.
Metcalfe let rip with a first-time rocket from distance which flew into the top-left corner of the net as St Pauli hammered Holstein Kiel 5-1 in their 2. Bundesliga fixture.
The Aussie would go on to notch an assist in an impressive display.
In the Netherlands, Garang Kuol scored his first goal for FC Volendam with a curled effort from the edge of the box.
Kuol held his run and found himself in plenty of space where he received the ball before shifting it onto his right foot and bending it into the top corner to give Volendam a 1-0 lead over Fortuna Sittard.
Unfortunately Volendam couldn’t hold on as their rivals went on to win 3-1.
The theme of wondergoals from the Aussie contingent continued with Matildas star Katrina Gorry.
A miscued clearance from Uppsala’s goalkeeper went straight to Gorry, who subsequently unleashed a swerving effort into the top right corner.
Gorry’s goal helped Vittsjo GIK to a 2-1 win over Uppsala.
Although it wasn’t quite as spectacular as the previous three goals, Caleb Watts scored the matchwinning goal for League Two side Exeter City in a win over Cheltenham Town.
Watts, who had linked up with Exeter just days before his debut, gave the home fans plenty to sing about when he popped up in the box in the 68th minute to score.
Socceroos star Craig Goodwin came off the bench for Saudi side Al Wehda and found himself on the scoresheet as they ran out 4-2 winners over Damac.
Mary Fowler made an impressive return to action for Manchester City, scoring twice in a 4-3 pre-season win against Everton while Aussie teen Mohamed Toure scored his first goal for Ligue 2 side Paris FC in a 3-0 victory over Amiens.
It’s rather difficult for goalkeepers to get amongst the goals but for Socceroos skipper Mat Ryan, he kept a clean sheet for Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar in a 2-0 win over Sparta Rotterdam.
Alkmaar have been in fine form this season with four wins from four and are in equal-first alongside PSV and FC Twente.
Over in Scotland, there were mixed fortunes for the large contingent of Aussie stars.
Martin Boyle, Jimmy Jeggo and Lewis Miller all started Nick Montgomery’s first game as Hibernian boss but threw away a two-goal lead in a 2-2 draw with Kilmarnock.
Ryan Strain notched the crucial assist for St Mirren in a 1-0 win over Motherwell while Kye Rowles and Cameron Devlin helped Hearts keep a clean sheet as they beat Aberdeen 2-0.

Rowles, who had come under fire for lacklustre performances this season, was singled out for praise by Hearts boss Steven Naismith.
“I challenged him before the game because I think in recent weeks he has found it tough at moments,” Naismith said.
“I think there have been small moments in games but because of where he plays it gets magnified. He showed today that he is mentally tough to put in the performance that he did. I thought he was really good. But overall our composure at the end of the game, not getting carried away or lacking discipline, showed because Aberdeen never really had a threat.”
In the Championship, Riley McGree and Sammy Silvera came off the bench for Middlesbrough but they slumped to a 2-1 loss to Blackburn Rovers.
It leaves Middlesbrough in last place and are one of three teams yet to register a win from their first six league games.
However, Aussie duo Massimo Luongo and Cam Burgess enjoyed a much better result as Ipswich Town beat Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 and now sit in third place on the ladder.
There was also a Real Madrid debut for Matildas flyer Hayley Raso.
Raso came on in the 60th minute for Madrid as they went on to beat Valencia 2-0.
