She’s the “missing piece” to the Mavericks’ puzzle but for Sasha Glasgow, 2025 is all about “learning the ropes again” – with one eye still on her international career.
Premiership winner Glasgow didn’t feature in the Mavs’ inaugural Super Netball season after suffering a career-threatening leg injury in February 2024.

But after a year on the sidelines, Glasgow is back and already plotting the Melbourne Mavericks’ rise to the top.
“I just feel so ready – which is such a reassuring feeling,” she told Fox Netball.
“The adversity that the girls experienced last year – the heartbreak losing Loz (Moore to an ACL injury) and I at the start of the season, I think they always knew it was going to be a little different.

“Now the first year is out the way, the inaugural things are out the way – it feels like everything is flowing this year. It’s not a first or a new everything.
“We really do have so much depth in our squad … What an amazing position for Tracey (coach Neville) to be spoilt with options – and great options too.
“I’m really excited to get back out there in any capacity.”
Glasgow had been one of the big signings for the Mavs after crossing from the West Coast Fever where she stamped herself as one of the game’s best long-range shooters while playing out at goal attack.
Her rise was so rapid, Glasgow became a grand final MVP and then an England Rose to join the world’s best on the international stage.
“It was so amazing,” she said of her Roses debut.
“For me, it was representing more than just myself. It was representing my family and my heritage. A place I really felt valued for what they could offer me, the way they spoke about my game, the ways they could advance it.
“It was so exciting to see the calibre of the likes of (England stars) Helen Housby and El Cardwell – people I could play with and get experience from.
“I’m just so grateful – absolutely loved all those moments I had in England.”
Despite her absence from the court last year, Glasgow still has hopes of playing once again for England.
“The best thing is the conversation didn’t stop when I did my leg – they were so supportive from the other side of the world,” she shared.
“(Roses coach Thirlby) Jess was amazing – she checked in so many times throughout.
“I’d love to get back to the England program if my body allows – it’s just taking it step by step.”
Part of that England program is preparing for the upcoming 2026 Commonwealth Games – an event Glasgow says would be a dream come true.
“I love that the door is open for England but there’s also no pressure there,” she said.
“I always wanted to one day go to a World Cup and Commonwealth Games – that is so many girls’ dreams to represent their country. Of course it’s there in the back of my mind if my body allows. But there are so many amazing England shooters who have represented the country the last year.
“It’s not a straight walk in – I have to go back and earn my spot and work hard. I feel like it’s there – it’s brewing in the back of my mind that the Commonwealth Games is so close.
“If I can play the level of netball I want to, I would love for that to be an opportunity I can take with two hands.”
Fox Netball’s Emily Beaton said Glasgow’s return would only bolster a Maverick line up striving to play finals for the first time after missing out only by percentage in 2024.
“No one likes taking on a game more than Sasha Glasgow,” she said.
“That’s what was really missing from the Mavs last year.
“You need someone to bring your focus back and there’s not a bigger competitor than Sasha Glasgow. She loves the big moments.”
Triple international Cat Tuiviati agreed Glasgow would be an important part of the Mavs’ set up in 2025.
“I think they know she was the missing piece of the puzzle,” she said.
“When she finds the hoop, she will not be missing – and in that super shot time I think is going to really drag them through into the finals.”
The Melbourne Mavericks will host the Sunshine Coast Lightning in Round 1 on Saturday, April 5.
