Australian teen sensation Cameron Myers has blitzed the field to break a 36-year record in Adelaide in a massive statement ahead of the 2024 Olympics.
Myers finished first in the men’s 1500m at the Adelaide Invitational on Saturday with a blistering time of 3:34:55.

The 17-year-old’s time was over two seconds ahead of the previous record set by Pat Scammell in 1988 when he finished in 3:36:81.
As he motored towards the finish line, the Channel 7 commentator marvelled at what he was witnessing.
“That’s really outstanding here,” the commentator said.
“That is a brilliant run. That’s a meet record, and then some … what a star.”
Myers managed to finish ahead of a strong field which included the likes of Tokyo 2020 Olympian Jye Edwards as well as reigning 1500m Australian champ Callum Davies.
Edwards placed third in the race while Jesse Hunt took home the silver medal.
Although it wasn’t the teen’s fastest 1500m time — a sizzling run of 3:33:26 at the Silesia Diamond League last July — it was a stunning performance that showcased his Olympic credentials.
The time he set in Poland means he’s cleared the qualifying time for Paris, but Myers is no guarantee to be on the plane given there are just three spots available and he’s up against the likes of Edwards and 2020 Olympic finalist Stewart McSweyn, to name two.
However, Myers will get the perfect chance to prove he belongs when he takes on Edwards, McSweyn and British world champ Jake Wightman at the Maurie Plant Meet in Melbourne on Thursday.
